The Mayor shall appoint, and the City Council shall confirm, the appointment of seven (7) directors, each of whom shall reside in the district.  The directors shall be appointed to serve staggered two-year terms that expire September 1.

Overview

The Crime Control and Prevention District has been established per Chapter 363 of the Texas Local Government Code, after being approved by a majority of the voters.  The District collects a sales and use tax at a rate of one-half of one percent (1/2 cents).

At the approval of the board, the District may finance all the costs of a crime control and crime prevention program, including the costs for personnel, administration, expansion, enhancement and capital expenditures.  Additionally, the funding may include police and law enforcement programs, community-related crime prevention strategies, and other necessary staff.  A majority of voters must reapprove the District every ten (10) years.
